MP Alleges Vote-Rigging By Trade Unions

In a sensational claim, Liverpool West Derby MP Bob Wareing has alleged that two trade unions, Amicus and Usdaw, fiddled their votes in an attempt to deselect him. In a letter to the Prime Minister, the veteran left-winger has urged Gordon Brown to investigate the sensational claims in a last-gasp bid to save his job.

According to the MP, Amicus cast six votes for his deselection, despite five branches originally voting in his support. Fresh ballot forms were sent out to the union, because it reported having "made a mistake".

Wareing is a member of the Campaign Group and is one of the most persistent rebels against the Labour whip, having voted against the government on issues such as privatisation of air traffic control and welfare reform. He takes a conservative view on social issues, voting against the equalisation of the age of consent for gays and the extension of stem cell research.
