The row between Commons and Lords over vote-rigging took a new twist yesterday when it emerged that the Labour Party’s General Secretary Peter Watt had demanded tough anti-fraud measures that the Government is fiercely resisting.The showdown worsened as MPs voted for a second time to reject the Lords amendment. On Monday, officials finally placed in the Commons library copies of letters received in a public consultation on election reform, including one from Peter Watt.
