"Unregistered Donations" Start Up Again

Several newspapers have reported this weekend that the Labour Party has received more than £300,000 in donations via an organisation that is not properly registered for political funding purposes.

According to "The Independent", Muslim Friends of Labour has been asked to register as a members' association with party funding watchdogs after the Labour Party was informed of the problem with its status by the Electoral Commission. The organisation is chaired by Mohammed Sarwar, a controversial Labour MP who was briefly suspended in the late 1990s before being cleared in a vote rigging scandal. Most of Westminster's Muslim MPs and peers are believed to be members.
